Today has been a very slow day.

With these slow days comes a certain attention to detail. Managers look at you while you WAIT for someone to come in. Like we are supposed to generate some sort of presence here. They look at you with this deep disappointing look when you don’t have something to do. There is nothing to do if there isn’t a customer here.

We are expected to keep an enthusiastic attitude all day, when 6 out of our 8 hours are spent looking out this big glass window with 5 other people doing the same thing… As soon as you walk away from that window, the looks begin. It’s like they are thinking “where are you going, why are you moving?” Like we are on a watch for enemy snipers…

It’s an uncomfortable feeling of a thumb pressing down on you like a bug. A belittling sense. Self esteem is shot by noon.

I just want to go home.
